Mixed Martial Arts Training

Mixed martial arts training uses a lot of techniques that need to be practiced often in order to defeat your opponent. This article is going to elaborate on the effective techniques used in mixed martial arts training.

The techniques that are used in mixed martial arts training fall into two broad categories.

The first category consists of only striking techniques such as using the knees to kick and using the upper body to deliver forceful punches. The second category consists of grappling techniques which include holds such as pinning holds, clinch holds and submission holds. Other popular grappling techniques used in mixed martial arts training includes sweeps, throws and take downs.

In order to improve the form and footwork of the fighters, techniques from traditional martial arts are incorporated into mixed martial arts training.

These traditional techniques include, but are not limited to, various forms of kick boxing, boxing and full contact karate techniques. Traditional techniques are taken from Judo and Greco – Roman wrestling - to help the fighters improve take downs and throws. In order to improve the ground control of the fighters, techniques from Brazilian Jujitsu and Judo are used in mixed martial arts training.

Certain hybrid styles are also incorporated into mixed martial arts training and techniques like sprawl and brawn enable the fighters to use stand up fighting tactics and kickboxing to fight the opponent.

Clinch fighting is another hybrid style used in mixed martial arts training and this technique is often referred to as dirty boxing. In this technique a clinch hold is practiced to keep the opponent in a close striking range and the defender uses knees, elbows and punches to bring down the opponent.

Ground and pound is one of the most practiced and popular hybrid styles of mixed martial arts training and in this technique the defender uses a takedown to bring the opponent to the ground and then the defender strikes the opponent using his fists and elbows.

Mixed martial arts is considered as a dangerous sport and proper mixed martial arts training is required in order to learn this sport. Safety of the fighters is important in competitions hence techniques such as biting or hitting the groin are not allowed.
