Martial Arts Styles
Martial arts styles vary from each other since each type of martial art uses different type of techniques to defeat the opponent.
In order to understand about different martial arts styles it is important to first understand the difference in the techniques used. Hard techniques involve using force if the opponent is using force and hard techniques can cause severe damage to the opponent.
The main goal of hard martial arts styles is to use the opponent’s force to their advantage and then harm the opponent by using hard movements. Soft techniques on the other hand are used to block punches, blows and strikes and these techniques are used before using a soft move to defeat the attacker. The main goal of soft techniques is to disarm their opponent by using minimal force and maximum positive energy.
If a certain set of martial arts use primarily hard techniques then those martial arts are known as hard martial arts styles and a certain set of martial arts that use soft techniques are known as gentle or soft martial arts styles.
Chinese internal martial arts focus primarily on the purity of the spirit, body and mind and these soft martial arts styles use breathing in order to strengthen one’s body and mind. A common technique used in Chinese internal martial arts to develop sensitivity and softness is the pushing hand technique. The pushing hand technique teaches a person how to use leverage, reflex and right timing to disarm the opponent without using any hard techniques.
Tae Kwon Do is considered as a hard martial arts style since this type of martial arts uses hard techniques to hurt and defeat the opponent. The famous Tae Kwon Do kick is known to break the arm of the opponent while he is trying to punch the defender and this kick can cause severe damage to the opponent.
Hard martial arts styles require the defender to be physically strong and these styles require the defender to learn how to use his body against the opponent rather than using it along with the opponent like that in soft martial arts styles.
Mixed martial arts styles use a combination of hard and soft techniques in order to first block the attacks of the opponent and then use hard movements such as kicks and punches to hurt and defend him.
