Martial Arts Moves

Martial arts comprise of various fighting and defense techniques such as Karate, Judo and Tae Kwon Do.

Judo is a martial arts technique that requires the defender to throw the opponent to the ground or immobilize the opponent using grappling moves. Some popular martial arts moves of Judo include the grappling, throwing, hold downs, body scissors, joint locks and chokes.

Joint locks is one of the most popular Judo martial arts moves in which the defender locks his wrists, elbows and legs on the body of the opponent and causes pain to the opponent to defeat him. Most competitions do not allow spinal lock moves since this can cause severe and permanent damage to the opponent. The elbow lock is the most used martial arts moves and this method of self defense is taught in all training classes.

Strangulation and chokes when done correctly can cut off the blood supply to the brain and hence they cause the opponent to become unconscious only for a few seconds. Chokes and strangulations when not done correctly are dangerous Judo martial arts moves and these techniques can cause temporary paralysis and even death by blocking the airway located in the front of the neck of the opponent.

The body scissors martial arts move is one of the most commonly seen Judo moves in which the defender wraps his legs firmly around the lower body of the opponent. This Judo move is used to pin down the opponent in order to control his lower body movements while the defender uses his hands to attack the opponent.

The standing phase allows the defender to throw down his opponent and use strikes, punches and kicks to defeat the opponent. It is important to note that most competitions do not allow using this martial arts move along with strikes and punches during contesting but this method is often taught in self defense classes. This martial arts move is mainly used to throw the opponent on his back and make him temporarily useless while the defender uses other moves to defeat the opponent.

Hold downs were traditionally used by samurais to disable his opponent for a few seconds in order to reach for his sword to defeat the opponent. Hold downs are one of the most popular martial arts moves practiced these days - provided the defender cannot defeat his opponent using other Judo techniques, such as throws and joint locks.
